Re: Thinking of getting a kitten.
Get a kitten. Get two if you can. Don't declaw them.
They make these little scissors that are made for trimming pet claws. They work fine. The hard part is getting the cat to let you do it. There's no good way. |

[ QUOTE ] Kittens are cute and it's awesome b/c you get to raise them while they are at their most impressionable [/ QUOTE ] This thread becomes incredibly scary if you replace the word "kitten" or "cat" with "child" [/ QUOTE ] Shhhh. People would never do such a thing. Oh, wait... |

Re: Thinking of getting a kitten.
Cleaning the litterbox (with a plastic scoop) isn't so bad, really, compared to picking up dog doo (with your hand) every time they go. Those plastic sandwich bags ain't cheap, ya know?

living a life without claws >>>>>> being put to sleep [/ QUOTE ] The problem with this is that you could say this about any pain/disadvantage and apply it to any living creature. The next person to prevent a cat from ever escaping will be the first. My childhood cat had no claws, got out of the house, and kicked ass versus other cats. However, he would get beat up pretty good from time to time because he didn't have his front claws. Who would want to handicap their pet like that? I didn't even know about the lifelong posture issues. Those of you with dogs might be familiar with how much that hurts an animal. Alex also brought home small birds and mice as presents to my mom. She didn't think that was as cool as we did. |

Re: Thinking of getting a kitten.
Glad to hear your cat could fight.. My Rusty came home with a chest wound one night that ended up exposing quite a large portion of his shoulder bone before we realized we needed to take him to the vet. I blame his belief that he's a vampire and needs to hide from the light for us not spotting it/him sooner.
