Younger Players
Some thoughts on younger players:
1) Great need to prove themselves to others 2) Great desire to play "perfectly" and "control" every element of the game 3) Great need to "outplay" everyone 4) Generally very low opinion of everyone else's game and playing ability. 5) Often tons of "theoretical information" via books yet lack of experience 6) Sometimes too internally focused, unaware of the obvious 7) Expect to win every hand they play 8) Easy to tilt 9) Take the game way too seriously sometimes 10) Overplay the hell out of good hands because they expect them to win Thoughts? Agree, disagree? -J |

Re: Younger Players
I agree that this describes one type of player who is very often young. I disagree that this has anything to do with being a young poker player (except the bit about lacking experience, which is obvious).
It is entirely possible (and not unlikely) for a young player to have none or just a few of these traits. |

Re: Younger Players
Also, the majority of these apply to semi-serious players of all ages. The majority of 45 year olds I play against take the game too seriously at times, overplay hands, are easy to tilt, expect to win every hand, and try to outplay me. They just have the experience to pretend they aren't doing these things, by repeating superficial mantras they don't really believe, like "That's poker" and "I've been sucked out on worse than that a million times."
It seems to me that for a certain type of person, life experience and "wisdom" is really just getting better at covering your own ass and avoiding spots where you look stupid. It isnt real wisdom. |

Re: Younger Players
Honestly, I see this with almost everyone I play with regardless of age. 90% of the people I play with expect to win every pot they enter, want to play every hand perfectly, act super-serious, and think they're always the best player at the table. Oh, and they overplay good hands, not because they expect them to win, but because they desperately want to "stop the other players from sucking out on them".
Actually, I'd say that I tend to "have a very low opinion of everyone else's game" that I play live with just because they get so pissy about beats, and try to control every hand. I can't respect any poker player that gets legitimately angry at other people for sucking out on him. I'm not saying you can't be mad that you lost the hand, but if you yell at the other players or make angry faces, or get offended every time someone makes a bad call and sucks out, you're not very mature as a poker player. |

Re: Younger Players
Wow I must have made a good point about this being regardless of age as everyone keeps repeating exactly what I already said.
