running the table means making all the balls in consecutive order to win the game without your opponent getting to shoot. His analogy here to me meant that melinda never had a bad performance, whereas all past winners always had at least one bad performance giving the others a shot.

To clarify, I didn't mean that I thought Melinda was the best every week, but rather that she didn't have even a single off performance out of sixteen. That certainly cannot be said of anyone else this season, and I don't believe it's true of past seasons (though of course people can and will disagree over what constitutes an "off" performance).

I think we all get it now. I was simply stating that I didn't understand how the term could apply to Idol. It's still a pretty subjective statement though. She had weeks where she was off and others in the past have been very consistent.

But,

I believe Kelly pretty much ran the table in Season 1.

And Carrie pretty much did too

Taylor's performance of "Take Me Home Country Roads" was terrible, so boring - but it's a terrible song to start with.

Wasn't 'Takin' It To The Streets' also bad?

I don't recall Clay ever having a bad performance, whereas Ruben stumbled a few times, so it's doesn't always matter who sings perfectly. Actually the best singer that season was probably Kim Locke.
