Flying with a computer (not a laptop)
I need to lug a computer with me across the country. I don't think shipping it is a good idea. It fits the requirements of carry on baggage so I'm thinking to just take the case on board with me. I think I should first remove the hard drives and power supply though. Anyone ever done this and have any other ideas or comments?

[/ QUOTE ] If you are going to take it apart, stick it in the box it came in and UPS it or FedEx it to where you are going. How do you think it got to the store you bought it from in the first place? The hassle factor of taking it on a plane is going to be bigger than shipping it and it will probably be safer.

I am confused as to why you are removing the hard drives and power supply? I have traveled with a laptop on the plane as a carry on plenty of times and they will take it to the side and examine it - sometimes ask you to turn it on, etc.

I think I'd rather keep them maybe in another piece of carry on luggage more safely packed and more able to sustain shock than just in the case.

[/ QUOTE ] You shop at the factory for these parts then? Take it to a UPS store and have them pack it and ship it. It is just as likely to get dropped during shipping as it is to get "dropped" in the overhead due to turbulance or someone's brief case slamming into it.

i'd say take out the hard drives and ship everything else. at least this way you can protect those, and they're easy to take out/install. also burn some important files to a cd/dvd just in case the worst happens.

I have traveled with a midtower before. I use a geargrip pro, and take it as a piece of carry on.
www.caseace.com outside of every other tard claiming 'hey, did you know they make laptops now?', it went pretty easily. flying out of tampa, i have been bomb checked with the sniffer device 2/3 times, 0/3-4 flying out of b'ham. if your case isn't a piece of crap, it makes for a good chair while waiting in the cattle call line as well.
