The HBO series "Oz"

Since I'm basically done watching the Sopranos (have to wait till Season 6 Part 2 comes out on DVD to watch the rest) after renting every season via netflix, I've decided to get into another series. Sopranos was amazing, I've also seen Lost which was great as well, and I love the high drama lifestyle that was constantly present in the Sopranos, with tales of lives I could only imagine living in. I thought about the Wire, but I heard a lot of mixed reviews on it and it supposedly can be pretty slow, so I've decided on "Oz" after I saw a lot of good reviews for it on Netflix.

I'm almost done watching the first episode, and so far it looks very interesting. Like the Sopranos, there are tons of intimidating characters that draw me to the series for one reason or another. The storyline seems good so far as well, and I've always been curious how prison life is.

So for people who have followed this show, what do you think of it?

The Wire = perfect.

Oz is pretty damn good too....though i just watched Season 1 for the first time and wasnt impressed. but the last 3 or 4 seasons of Oz are great.

Oz was the first HBO show I ever watched, and based on the quality of Oz, I tried other HBO shows and was not disappointed.

Oz is good for 3 or so seasons (can't remember).

The last couple of seasons are a totally different show however, a very bad one.

The Wire is amazing, best or second best drama in tv history depending on ur view of the Sopranos

I just watched the first 5 seasons of 0z on dvd, the show is amazing... if i recall the first 4 eps are on HBO on demand right now.

It's downright graphic though, don't have the kids around when you watch it

Seriously, watch The Wire.

WATCH THE [censored] WIRE.

It's definitely my favorite dramatic television show ever.

Oz had too many murders and schemes to be realistic. So, don't expect to learn anything about actual prison life.

But, if you can enjoy watching men plotting to murder, seize the drug trade, and occassionally rape each other, it's a great soap opera.

OZ is classic stuff.

I'm about halfway through Season 2 of The Wire and it is also quite good. I was a little unsure because the first few eps of S1 (and S2 for that matter) are slowish, but it picks up and all the framework stuff in the early eps pay off.

Summary - both are great.
