Help, I inherted a computer and I need to know the info
I inhereted a windows 2000 server and I cannot login, and I don't have a windows disk. I went into the bios but it still don't know how much harddrive space there is.
Is there a way without the password I can log into windows 2000? I assume because it was a server it's pretty heavily protected. Is there a bootdisk I can use to get all the information I need, such as hard drive size? Can I have windows 2000 wipe itself clean of info without uninstalling it? Right now my basic plan is to get a boot disk and format the hard drive, but then I don't have windows, and I can't still don't know how big the Hard drive (or hard drives) is /are. Please give me some help! Thanks mura |

Re: Help, I inherted a computer and I need to know the info
Why are you so desperate to know how big the harddrives are? This doesn't seem like a crucial piece of info.
I don't know how to crack into a server. Maybe somebody else will chime in. -Sam |

Re: Help, I inherted a computer and I need to know the info
Well, either I'm going to take it apart and harness those massive server drives for myself... or I'm going to sell it. Wouldn't that be nice?
Also, I think the hard drive(s?) are SCSI, but I guess the would still be 'c'. Is there a dos boot disk I can get and then put in some command to tell me what the drives are, their names, and how big they are? |

http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
This is a linux boot disk that will enable you to clear or reset the administrator password. Safest is to clear it and then set it in Windows. |

Re: Help, I inherted a computer and I need to know the info
Thanks, this may be too advanced for me. Lets say, though that I just want to erase everything. I think I'm having trouble because the HDs are scsi and they won't be detected so far.. can I just boot into dos see what drvies there are and format them... and if so how?

Re: Help, I inherted a computer and I need to know the info
I've only actually done it with ATA and SATA drives, but I believe there's an option to load SCSI drivers after you boot the CD. If the drives are on a RAID controller or are all LVM rather than simple partitions, you may be SOL. Reformatting everything is an option, but you should start with a Windows 2000 or Server 2003 install disk if you want to go that route. Even with DOS, you're still going to need SCSI drivers, and those are probably harder to find for DOS than for linux or Windows.

Actually that program automatically installed the scsi for me, I'm waiting for windows to load so I can test my new password. We'll see, I'll let ya'll know what happens.
