Default WARNING: NETELLER PHISHING

I just got this email:

Your account has been deactivated.

The NETELLER account has been deactivated. Please update your address to re-activate your account.

To update your address, use click the link below `ACTIVATE ACCOUNT` (note: url not copied) and click the "Option" tab in your account screen. On the “Option” page, click the "Mailing Address" link and enter your correct address.

Re-Activation link (click here to re activate your account)

Thank you for choosing NETELLER.

Best regards,
Jorge

This was a phishing attempt. They have setup a dummy page on another server that looks just like the Neteller login page. In fact, it almost certainly uses the exact same images. They are further hoping that I put my actual info in so that they have it and then have access to my bank account.

Please be very careful, and do not fall for this. If you get such an email, never click on their links and put the information in. If you fear that there is a problem, manually type the URL into the address bar on the top, and login the usual way. Do NOT ever login to a banking site such as neteller by following links in an email.

Jared

If you click the link, is the url the same/similar to neteller or different?

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't receive this message but I did move recently, so who knows how I would have responded (probably suspiciously).

The URL is a bunch of numbers, an IP I presume, followed by a /neteller/index.html.

I did a whois on the IP and it says it's located in Romania.

Would it be considered an inappropriate racial/ethnic remark to make a comment about cyber gypsies?

I just received a similar email this morning. It is cleverly done. The underlying link is to an address called "nelleller.com" -- my useless eyes almost looked right past it.

General guideline -- if you recieve a message from a "vendor" that does not use any of your information beyond your email address (d'uh) be suspicious. Legit vendors should be aware enough to use a salutation that includes your name or username or user id; something that says they know you beyond your email address. If not, take it as a warning sign.

To reemphasize OP's sound advice:

Good luck.

<edited to add OP's advice>
