Default Flop a set, by river only one card needed for a straight

Villian in this hand is 44/0/.89. I flopped a set so I was going to try and extract as much money as I could, but by the river there was only one card left to complete a straight and he bets all in. I put his range on XXh, Qx, and KJ. Do I just shake my head and fold?

Is there anything I could have done earlier in the hand to prevent this? I only bet around 3/4 of the pot on the flop because that is my normal continuation bet. With such a drawy board on the turn would have it been better if I just c/c? And as played on the river just checked?

deeper stacked I would fold, but with only $3.17 behind you and $7.20 invested, I think I make this call. You're probably behind, but he will have AQ, QK, QT, or a busted draw sometimes.

You played it fine. Just a cooler if you lost.

Against an aggro opponent who might have been on a heart draw, you can check call river sometimes.

Converter is a little weird. Did villain post?

No it's the hero who posted. I just noticed that too, I think its because I copy and pasted the last part at the end because I wasn't sure whether to show the river betting or not. Thanks for the replies.
