What number would you choose?

First day of my game theory class today, and we played this game (winner gets extra credit on first midterm):

Everybody chooses an integer 0-100. Take the average of all of the submitted numbers and then multiple the average by (2/3). Winner is the person that picks the integer closest to that product (if multiple people choose the closest, they each receive the extra credit).

Class of ~20, for those that think it would change their number.


P.S., sorry about ST:TNG, but I was out of town for the weekend and I came back to a computer whose OS will not load. I probably won't be posting much this week, but will try to have a working computer for vendetta 2, which should be a lot of fun.

I think 0 and 1 are both Nash equilibria. I would go with 1. The actual correct answer depends hugely on how insightful your classmates are.

0 doesn't do anything for you if the class is weighted.

Yeah, that's right. I'm thinking, if they're smart go with 0, otherwise go with 1.

if you think your class is smart, pick something like 15. if you think they are dumb, go for something more like 22

first week of class, people go to level 2...so 100*2/3*2/3*2/3=30...so go 27
