Default Top set multiway on pretty terrible river

I capped PF in the small blind and capped the flop with some people who were short stack, one person is AI and the other 4 people have just been calling along. The flop 3-bettor still has chips and he's started calling.

I have K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and the board is K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

The pot is 31bb and I'm first to act on the river.

I think the players in the pot with me are mostly loose passive.

I'm not willing to bet/fold unless it's 2bb back to me. My options are therefore K/C or B/C.

So... I guess my question here is whether B/C or K/C is more profitable.

I think B/C, but I'm not sure.

This is a live 10/20 but only the second-lowest limit at the casino, so it plays a little worse than a 10/20 at a more accessible card room.

5 other people in the hand on the river?
Check, you can decide if you're going to call later.

Now if you have something other than a passive description on the other players, then maybe we need to talk about betting to see a cheap showdown.

C/C with this many in the pot, with this river card, with this size pot IMO.

Bet/call. It's a huge pot and, especially if your reads are on, you're being called by tons of worse hands. You may not even be raised by a non-nut straight.

Checking allows far too many hands that would call a bet to check behind, and even with that many opponents I think it's borderline MUBS to put someone on a straight, given the preflop & flop action.

bet and see what happens. the board is scary, worse hands will call your bet but not necessarily bet themselves.

I check/call here.

8/45 cards beat you * 8 opponent cards = 64/45 chance you're beat if we assign opponents random holdings. On second thought that math makes no sense whatsoever because probabilities can't be greater than 1, but you get the idea.

That said, you have to showdown with a pot this big.

I am bet/calling. People will call you with much worse. Of course a straight is out there often, but not often enough. This card also completes a lot of two pair hands that will call (or even raise) your bet. Whatever you do, don't fold.

If you are afraid to bet top set, then expect a passive table to be afraid to bet anything but a straight.

Which means as being 1st to act, you have to bet, since they won't bet two-pair, pair hands.
