Checking behind lets you just call river bets (which lets him bluff), making money from his air and saving money when you're crushed. I don't think you represent AK as well as you think you do since this is a common type of flop to check behind with AA or KK. As played, I'd fold... esp since if he did put you on AK he prob wouldn't bet a big hand since he doesn't expect you to call with it... and now he's just hoping you checked behind AA or KK. i am indeed too tricky for my own good, but i checked mainly cos this board hits his CRR range really hard.
