When Your Opponents Are Passive With Top Pair Hands
In SSHE p157, the example is given of checkraising the button with Q7s out of the SB on a Q82r flop.
One argument for doing so is that there is a reasonable probability that you have the best hand because players holding QJ or QT would typically bet. But what if you are playing with some opponents you know well, several of whom would typically check QJ, QT, even AQ (which they normally limp with)? What if we add in that the button will only bet with middle pair or better and won't slowplay hands that beat top pair? Would this change how you think the hand should be played? |

Re: When Your Opponents Are Passive With Top Pair Hands
I would think this makes the raise even more correct. This pot is big enough to fight for (9 SB's), and I'm assuming the players who would check QJ or QT could fold rather than call 2 cold. Even if they fold a better hand a minority of the time, you've scored a major coup when they do that more than makes up for the times that you're beat.

Re: When Your Opponents Are Passive With Top Pair Hands
i think this needs to be adjusted against these types.usually these types dont bet TPMK(or even TPTK) but will call down with them.i play at foxwoods, and there are a lot of these types who play in the a.m., early afternoon (mostly old timers).very frustrating to play against, and i usually play more cautious when there in a hand.

these are the types of players that will also call down with garbage, however. they are very profitable.
i still believe a CR is the right play here. |
