Voting strategy for Dems: would this work?
Dems generally think that ending the war is the most important thing for the next president to do, yes? So I have a theory about how they could assure an end (or at least, an end sooner than Bush or the neocons would want).
They should encourage as many dems as possible to vote for RP in the rep. primary. If they can get a large number of people to do this, I think RP would probably win. I don't really see a big downside to this strategy. Even though most of them would obv want to vote in the Dem primary, it wouldn't really matter because Clinton and Obama are pretty much the same. I don't really see any major issues they disagree on. I think most dems would rather be assured of an anti-war presiddent than sacrifice a vote in the Dem primary, which may result in the Dem they wanted not getting elected. Plus, if RP got the rep. nomination, lots of neocons wouldn't vote at all, almost assuring a Dem president. Pretty slick scheme amirite? |

So what you are saying is that the Democrats should ally themselves with a candidate which most people will regard as a kook? The goal of any politician is to win the election, not assure a loss.
Not only that, but how are Democrats going to vote for a Republican in a primary? |

[/ QUOTE ] Vote for =/= ally with. [ QUOTE ] Not only that, but how are Democrats going to vote for a Republican in a primary? [/ QUOTE ] Change their registration? Many states have open primaries anyway and you can just choose which one to vote in cause you're not assigned to one party or the other. |

[/ QUOTE ] They don't have to "ally themselves" with him, they just need to vote for him in the primary. [ QUOTE ] Not only that, but how are Democrats going to vote for a Republican in a primary? [/ QUOTE ] In some states you can just vote in whichever primary you want. In other states, they can switch their party affiliation just for this election. It's not that hard. |

Re: Voting strategy for Dems: would this work?
Democrats don't want this war to end before the next election.
I'm not even sure they want it to end then (given thier policy announcements). They can't lose if the republican is pro-war. They want credit for ending it (maybe in time for the 2010 or 2012 elections). |
