Isn't this a standard bet/3-bet?

If you go for the sexy you'll get a bet/call from Kx. You might get a little value from inducing too.

But you'll get checked behind by 2-pair, sets, 8x etc. And you won't have the opportunity to b/3b if he overplays a king.

Seems like loss of value to me.

On the turn, villain most likely has you beat - especially considering his range of hands. He's probably caught a piece of the board with a Queen, or a Ten, or maybe has a pocket pair.

That said, you have a strong draw (nut flush, nut gutshot, overcards)

As indicated above, villain likely has some sort of a hand, so you have very little bluff equity here.

Accordingly, you should check the turn.

If villain then checks through --> Great, free card.

If villain bets the turn --> you're getting neary 7:1 money with your strong draw, so it's an easy call.

From there, check/fold the river unimproved.

However, since you improved on the river to the straight... I don't any need to get fancy. The board would be pretty scarey for a paired queen or pocket pair, so if you check it'll probably just get checked through behind you.

Value bet the river and expect a call.

Miles, just to make sure you werent on to something here I did some math, put villain on a range and made some assumptions that was probably biased towards a check/raise strategy and Bet/3bet still came out ahead.

The only way I can see C/R being better than B/3bet here is if we make the assumption that the villain will just call the river some percentage close to 100% with the 8 combos of KQ(only 8 cuz K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] would raise turn) and the 2 combos of KTs. When I did the math I assumed villain would raise the river 100% of the time with KQ/KT.

In constructing my ranges I also assumed this was a CO vs BTN situation since it was 4 handed.
