Default When to look at the cards? (LC)

When I am playing a live tournament (or cash game for that matter) I almost always wait until its my turn to look at the my hole.

Thoughts on the subject are welcome.

This thread should be moved to B&M.

You should be looking at the other players when they look at their cards. You should especially be glancing to your left to see if anyone has already seen their cards and is photographing their intentions.

I love when my opponents photograph their intentions. During the Main Event this year, I was getting ready to raise, when I glanced to my left. Donk had his camera phone out taking a picture of his Milwaukee's Best Light Arr-In chip and his hole cards. I folded, obv.

I like to look only when it's my turn. Allows me to watch and digest all the action so my veiw of the action in front of me is not skewed by my cards. When I peek, I know my range already.

It also allows me to keep a consistent action when it is up to me.....peek - pause - think - play. Everytime.

I thought about this before. When I'm at the table, and see someone looking at their cards as soon as they are dealt to them, this is usually a quite accurate read that this person is a fish, or has mostly been playing online.

Obviously the optimal thing to do, is to wait until it's your turn to act, so that the people in front of you can't pick up any tells about the strenght of your hand, simply because you don't even know yourself yet.

However, when it's your turn to act, people will be watching you, so maybe they will be paying more attention to your face, and pick up your expression while you are looking at your cards. This is an argument for looking at your cards as soon as you get them.

I still prefer waiting until it's my turn though.

yay! i'm the only one who said directly. if i look down and see aces if someone raises me i can make some comment to him like "you have every [censored] hand" then look at my hand like i havent seen them yet and announce i am all-in.
