Graph question about excel?

just wondering if someone might know the answer, or at least can point me in the right direction for the answer. It's driving me nuts that I cannot figure it out.

I will try to make this as simple as possible. I am trying to make a graph (as I am sure a lot of people are) The problem is this:

I enter data into column A. Column A is the one I want to graph, but I want the graph to procede as I enter data.

Right now the only equation I can find is like $a$1:$a$21 (or some other random number. The problem with this is that it puts all fields in your graph, even if there is no data in the field.

I thought the equation might be a countif, but that doesn't seem to work, or I am just not entering it properly.

again, anything would be much appreciated.

So this has been the bane of my existance for close to a week now, and I finally figured it out. This article was a huge help, for anyone with the same issue as I had.
