Default NL25 - Turned trips vs. TAG regular, What\'s your play?

Villian is 21/16/2.7 after about 300 hands. I don't have any specific notes on him, which probably means we haven't clashed much, and that he plays a pretty straight forward game. He felt that my play in this hand was terrible, so I wanted to see what most people would do here. I will post my play, along with both sides of the argument after I see some replies. Thanks.

I would cbet, but as played, push the turn.

Yeah, I meant to mention that in the OP. I would cbet here a good percentage of the time. Put he was a thinking opponent and I had been raising the button and cbetting a lot, so I opted for the check here.

Push. If he's bluffing because it's a scare card your not getting any money out of him no matter what you do. If he's on a draw you want the money in before the river. If he's got a 9 that isn't A9 or J9 you want his stack, and he will gladly give it to you.

Checking's not terrible, especially if you think it's reasonably likely he'll raise your cbet here. I could go either way really (usually leaning towards a cbet). Definitely get it in on the turn.

It's not exactly a cbet here. It's more for value -- plus, turn is going to be a card you can't trust not to hit villain so often. Not like checking behind when there are few or no overcards to hit.

Thanks for the replies. Good to see peoples reasoning as to why the flop should be a cbet. Wildzero hit it on the head though, in that I was worried he might c/r my cbet.

As for the turn, I obviously instashoved. He called with A9, and after the hand basically told me I should work on improving my game after such a terrible shove. Since he was a decent player, I figured I should at least look into it. His argument was weakened a little when he told me he would have folded a hand like T9 or 98.
