A few years ago I bought a scratch off lottery ticket the day before leaving for Florida for a week. After I scratched it off I thought I won $5. Woo Hoo.
The next morning while I was getting gas for the trip I decided to cash it in. I handed it to the girl working the register, she scanned it and then handed it back to me saying "I can't cash this. You have to take it to the main lottery office." I asked her why she couldn't cash a $5 ticket and she kind of started to laugh. She looked at me and said "Uhh, it's not a $5 ticket, you won $5k." [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] I haven't won anything over $10 since. [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] Obviously I had a good start to my vacation.

My family (my mother technically) won a Cadillac in a drawing when I was a senior in high school. Unfortunately we sold it right back to the dealer and took the money.
That same year I won a nice prize due to poor planning. Someone donated four tickets each to four Redskins games. The seats were the second row off the field dead on the 50 yard line. They raffled them off during the first football game of the year. I think it was $2 a ticket and you stuffed your ticket in the box for the game you wanted, so there were four boxes marked with the team the Redskins were playing. My brother was playing in the game so I went, but it was unseasonably cold and there was a torrential downpour that lasted all day. My school only had 400 people to begin with so there were only a couple dozen people at the game. My father and I bought $60 worth of tickets and stuffed the hell out of the boxes. We won three of four games. This was in the late eighties when the Redskins were awesome and tickets were impossible to get at a reasonable price. We went to two games and sold the third for a total profit of about $300. The beat at the end of this is that in the old RFK the 50 yard line right on the field is a terrible seat. I stared at Joe Jacoby's back for about 75% of the game. Really I just looked at the cheerleaders and watched it on the Jumbotron.

once when i was about 15, my dad put my name in a drawing to be the "tee boy" at a jaguars game. a few days later, i thought he was joking when he told me i got picked, but, he wasnt. my job was to run onto the field after the first kickoff and pick up the tee, and i got 2 tickets to the game, a tshirt, and got to chill in the tunnel before the game. they put my name up on the scoreboard when i did it, obv.
brag: got to see steve young and jerry rice close-up, and theyre badass beat: had to run out on the field like a goon in front of 70,000 people. beat: most tee boys are like 9 years old. i havent ever seen one close to my age. variance: didn't trip and fall when i was running, but was quite afraid of it. variance: already had season tickets anyhow, but a friend who didn't got to go to the game too

Well, if you consider public education a contest, then I've won an all-expense paid trip to college, plus a laptop.
If you don't, then my best is a free Coke. So I'm going with the college one.
