We don't understand, because you're insane. We don't differentiate between how we laugh alone and how we laugh with friends because there is no difference, if we find something funny we laugh, and if we don't, we don't.

I'm not talking about the difference between laughing and not laughing. I'm talking about the difference between laughing by yourself and not laughing by yourself - the difference between audible and not audible.

There's involuntary laughter and voluntary laughter... I don't think there should be much argument that location shouldn't really matter in regards to an involuntary laughing response. The voluntary laughing case (while alone) is slightly interesting. Psychologically, I can think of maybe a couple reasons to do this; (1) you want someone to hear you so they may eventually join you or (2) you're completely alone and the audible sounds of your own laughter make you feel less alone.

If you've never laughed at something by yourself, I'd think you were a really weird/strange dude.

I laugh all the time by myself

I have a stressful job and too serious life. I like laughing out loud when I can; including when I am watching tv, on-line etc. My GF agrees with you and thinks I am weird.

Here is a recent conversation after she caught me laughing about the chick splashing Charlie Runkle in Californication:

GF: You never laugh like that with me...
Me: You're not that funny.
