Default 50 NL, TP3K, question of value

Villain is 26/10/1.8

Ongame No Limit Hold'em BB($0.50)

Button: $56.35
SB: $90.90
BB: $70.35
UTG: $50.00
Hero: $58.10
CO: $44.45

Preflop: Hero is dealt J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6 Players)
UTG folds, Hero raises to $2.0, CO folds, Button calls $2.0, SB folds, BB calls $1.5

Flop: ($6.25) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
BB bets $3.5, Hero raises to $10.0, Button folds, BB calls $6.5

Turn: ($26.25) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
BB checks, Hero ?

In what lines should my thinking go here?

More like "OMG i'm behind" or more like "I'm ahead, so bet" or more like "There are no obvious draws to protect against, so I check and call a river bet"?

you need to b/f, I would say about 15 or so. This should get you a cheap showdown too. You aren't ahead of much, but you aren't behind much either.

you shouldn't be raising this flop imo. Just call...I don't mind b/fing or just checking behind and calling a river bet.

Raising the flop turns your hand into a bluff.

The only time I play a large pot here is when I am up against a donk who likes to play ace rag and won't fold on any ace-high flop.

Allrighty... So what's the plan if I call the flop and:

a)He checks turn
b)He bets 1/2 pot
c)He bets pot on turn

I check behind often here, but b/f more often facing someone like willy mentions that will pay off w/ Ax on a board like this. Even with them though, I think it's sometimes easier to get value on the river after checking the turn.

This is clearly a hand you should try to keep the pot small with. The flop is great for this as it's dry and the player to act behind you should not call very often - if he calls he most likely has you beat.

So I'd call flop and try to get to SD as cheaply as possible. I can see myself folding to a sizable turn bet by villain if I did not see him 2barrel with air before.

As played I think we are behind most of the time so I'd give up on the hand and would not call a river bet. I am not sure there is anything that calls our flop raise that we beat.

In a vacuum, probably...

a) bet ~2/3 pot
b) call
c) fold

You could bet the turn for like 2/3 then check behind the river, but with this board of 0 draws I think I'd rather pick off a river bluff or vb the river after having shown as little strength as possible, since, you know, we aren't very strong.

In b, that's the last money I'm putting in UI, and c he can take it, AJ sucks.

Why on earth do you need to do that?

No, it very obviously won't.

Umm ok...

Sorry, nothing against you whyzze but this seems like bizarre reasoning to me.

OP, I would just check behind on the turn. Flop raise is fine, but if you bet now you will narrow his range too much. And as you say there are no draws to protect against. I would put him on a weak ace (most likely), possibly an 8, possibly AK/AQ. Call a reasonable river bet, and maybe value bet if checked to.
