I think you're a virgin

It's ok I didn't lose my virginity til i was 18 (almost 19).

Anyways, a couple questions.

1) #1 mistake of SSNL players?
2) FT or Pstars? and why?
3) Paying taxes or no?

A bit OT but [censored] it this is the well. How do you like your major? I'm a computer engineering major so we take a solid mix of comp eng, ee, and comp sci courses, but [censored] I hate most of the EE courses. I guess I just find it uninteresting, and I don't plan on doing anything directly involving in it in the end so it's hard for me to sit through some of these courses.

EDIT for content: How many buy ins for the next level did you usually have before taking shots? What would be your stopping point for the shot? Right now I'm working with like 15-17 for shots, and taking a 2-3 buy in shot [if I drop 2-3 I drop back down]. Having a bit of trouble breaking through to nl100 from 50, though.

I'm playing 400NL right now and doing decent, but everytime I try to take a stab at 600NL, I can never find good games. Full Tilt 600NL is full of 22/17/3 players...... my question is what are your requirements for a good table to take a shot at?

I personally felt the jump from 200NL to 400NL was tough bc if you play straight foward (like most do at 200NL), your not getting paid off; it seems to me at least the adage "you won't get action if you don't give action" hold true.... your thoughts?

1.) Playing to many tables, with to many leaks! (especially when first moving up)
2.) Pokerstars. It has Lee Jones, but no heads up tables…
3.) Havent figured out how this tax thing is going to work which is why most of its sitting in my bank account.I plan to do some research soon, but I also haven’t told my parents about having so much cash. I do not want them to think they pay for my college so that I can play poker. I made sure last semester I got A/B's in my classes to keep parents happy, and I was still able to play ALOT of poker. This semester classes are tougher, and it’s only getting harder. I am going to have to cut way down on my poker in the upcoming future, have not played much at all in Feb.

This semester I am doing semi decent as far as classes go but my school to poker ratio is pretty bad. I remember showing my bankroll to my sister, during Christmas break and at the time it was like 25k. I didn’t tell her how much poker I have been playing. I was surprised by her reaction, instead of being happy for me she was like “this really scares me, I want you to stop this”. My family does not support my poker, and I love my family way more then I love poker. Like I feel committed now to get good grades, for myself, my parents, my future and everyone who is so supportive but this semester seems like my performance is pretty mediocre (after just taking midterms). It’s sick that I can make so much money from this game but I got to remember I am a student, sometimes my priorities get out of whack.

toughest player you have played against?

A few months back before stars 25/50 came about I remember watching H@££INGGOL and thinking he was so awesome. I eventually was given the chance to sit with him at multiple tables of 5/10nl short handed and I decided to play just for fun since I have the roll and thought it would be a good experience. Here is someone who has a lot more experience then me and has played with some of the best in the world.

I play fewer tables, so I really try to focus and not rely on it. I am making much more notes, and looking up hh’s and have been happy with my results so far. If you are playing a lot of tables (especially if lower stakes) or don’t pay attention as much I think it becomes much more mandatory and useful.

people never pay enough attention to this then ask the same goddam questions when carrotsnake does a Well a month from now =(

I agree, looking at my upcoming schedule this might get incredibly boring and I might need to change this major! Some of these classes I have heard can be incredibly difficult even if your good at math! On a side note I just took a math test, and I studied a bunch of problems and the test was like give the definition of blah… and I just failed it so I am pretty disappointed with myself right now. Next years schedule will pretty much be all EE type classes (if i stick with it), but for now I am getting rid of all these annoying requirements.

As for moving up Q, find a game and kill it for awhile. Kill it as in be one of the better players, build a reputation, find out what makes the good players so great, etc. Try to get players who are good and don’t mind talking to you on AIM. By the time it takes for you to learn how to “kill it” your roll should be big enough and your experience should have increased dramatically. Bankroll management has never been a huge problem with me, and unless you are cashing out frequently then you should be able to accumulate enough buyins pretty easily. Your plan is fine, just be able to drop back down (as you said) and you will be alright. As for me, I am such a nit with my roll, 25+ buyins is like a shot, and 40+ buyins is my usual grind.

1. I have spent like 3k- vacation, Christmas presents, gifts for family, friends, spending cash, nice watch. I have some in the bank and a big chunk on stars.

2. I am making a nice buck, but right now my focus is on college and doing well. We will just have to see.

3.Good question , it might have to change, but I kind of just selected something out of the blue since I am so much better at math then English.

Definitely agree, if you read MSNL compared to SSNL you should notice a lot of it is less reliance on your own cards. Like I said before, if you do not 2nd barrel in 400nl+…well gl buddy, because a lot of people love calling flop to see what you do on the turn.
Also helps to table select though, some of those stars 400nl 6m tables can suck major nuts if you play at wrong times. I have a buddylist on stars, just a txt document and when I see someone do something incredibly stupid, like an absolutely horrible bluff or bad call down I add them. Right now I got like 20 buddies or so, and if they are not on frequently I will just get rid of them are skip them when I search. For me theres some regulars like - Wyern, OCqueen, birdboy100, etc. that I just lick my chops because they are regulars who just have so many obvious leaks.

On some days, I am ready to play a session of 600nl 6max and all the tables have players like DF_Newb, raszi, vaesolis, sleepy80, DerreckCJ80 or whatever, preposterous, etc. and then some $80 stack of some fish. Like its almost not even worth it to play sometimes. Not all these players are very good and I am sure I can show small profit, but they all have a basic foundation of the game. MSNL is defenitely getting harder, so I might have to get use to playing these guys but atleast check to make sure theres not a better table. I still think with current state of games, you can make a boatload of money and just read some of msnl cheese thread to see for yourself. I love opening up 6max tables and not being able to recognize any names. I guess it’s a matter of playing at the right times of the week.
