My approach (which I think is pretty standard) is to tell the person who lets me see his cards that I can see his cards ONE time.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly.

[/ QUOTE ]if you think its wrong, it doesnt matter how many times you tell him, its still wrong. telling him once or 100 times doesnt make it right.

But not AS wrong as not telling him at all. What's even more important here is that the other people at the table need to know that you have a significant (unfair) advantage over them.

I'm disillusioned that so many people don't think this is cheating. It's good to know, for sure. Now I have to keep a good eye out for anyone that is cheating (in my book) by looking at someone else's cards, so I can know not to play with them. This makes the game less fun, IMO. The fact (so far) that 2/3 of the players out there may be cheating and don't think it's cheating... sucks.

It's not cheating. You have the words cheating and unethical mixed up probably.

edit: the OP does not state if you actively do something to be able to see the hole cards. That might be cheating if you do, I don't know.

Nah. It's both.

Is looking toward the person's hole cards "actively doing something to be able to see the hole cards"?

PlayerA keeps showing his cards. PlayerB gives one quiet warning, and then shuts up.
PlayerA == stupid
PlayerB maybe unethical, but not cheating.

You are sitting on the other end of the table. Are you happy with the situation? PlayerA bets turn, PlayerB raises with marginal hand because he knows PlayerA is on a draw. You muck the best hand because you do not have the information.

Oh, PlayerA and PlayerB are roommates.

Still think it is just 'unethical'?

What if PlayerA is just trying to help his friend and there is no 'agreement'?

Just to be the devils advocate:

If my opponent calls on a draw without the correct implied odds, should I tell him to stop ONCE, before I take advantage of it?

Protecting your hand is part of playing poker - why is it any different than any other poker skill?

Fine, if you are playing heads up.
You are not.
You get information that 8 other players do not have.
I am across the table from you. Every hand I clearly show my hand to my neighbor, even if he is in the hand. You fine with that?

Exactly. This is a mix between "collusion" and violating the "show one show all" rule that most rooms have. So, even if the person showing the cards doesn't realize it, the person seeing the cards is violating these two rules (for all you sticklers that seem to be OK with acting unethically, as long as it's not breaking a "rule").

[/ QUOTE ] Showing someone your cards on purpose is obviously cheating. Noone has said anything else. That doesn't necessarily mean that seeing someone's cards and then taking advantage of your new information is cheating.

And in case someone misunderstands, I'm not saying it's ok to not at least give a warning.
