Besides being annoying, I think his supporters in the audience are doing him a disservice by cutting into his time by applauding every line.

[/ QUOTE ]

Huh? That was a pretty standard level of applause.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was very shocked by the support in the audience. When he was on the Daily Show, he was constantly getting booed. Interview went very well, props to Leno for not being a dick about it.

I think the difference between him and someone like Obama is that Obama's goal is to get through the time alotted saying as little as possible while Paul's actually got a really strong message that he wants to spend as much time as he can explaining to America.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. This is basically true for any of the other candidates, since they all pretty much represent the "establishment" status quo. These candidates want to just string together as many "code words" as possible to draw upon the audience's lifetime of indoctrination.

Apple Pie!

Motherhood!

The American Flag!!!

Etc. Just push the pre-programmed emotional buttons. They're not giving a five-minute speech, they're giving a twenty, thirty, fourty YEAR speech, since these responses have been conditioned into the audience since childhood.

When someone who represents real change gives a speech, he can't draw upon that lifetime of indoctrination. He has to start from scratch.

I don't know, I'm somewhat pessimistic about the average Republican. The average Republican seems to be in a decidedly fascistic mood (or at least imperialistic).

The reason they love Giuliani and hate Ron Paul is not because they don't know Rudy (the real one) or Ron Paul, but precisely because they do know them. I don't think any additional exposure to Ron Paul is going to help with those types.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ding. The Republican candidates in the debates so far have been practically screaming about how many additional people they want to kill and/or torture. They're not hiding this, they're BROADCASTING it.

Zactly. Unfortunately, Paul may ultimately not have a chance because he expresses well-reasoned positions consistent with the proper role of government in a free society, rather than repeating empty platitudes about expanding the welfare state "for the children."

I missed the Leno broadcast, but I'll check it out on youtube when I get home. That Paul apparently mentioned the Austrian School of economics... wow!! Of course, to most people watching, he might as well had mentioned M-theory.

Damn, its the first chance I'll have to watch the Tivo'd "Americas Next Top Model", which has far more relevance than RP in the long run.

I have him blocked, so I have no idea what he said. However, judging from past experience, I can safely say:

QFT.
