Reheating Rice
Is there something here I'm missing? I made too much rice the other day and had to reheat it, this has happened before. I microwave it and it comes out very dry and kinda hard. I tried putting some water in/over it and that didn't help either. Is there any way to reheat rice successfully or should I just better measure my appetite from the get go? Thanks.

Re: Reheating Rice
I don't know what kind of rice you cooked, but with Japanese rice (the sticky kind), I put some water on it (not too much, mind you), and then I soak a paper towel with water cover the container and the rice with it, and then stick it in the microwave.

Re: Reheating Rice
Not sure if it's Japanese rice but it is definitely the white sticky kind. You put the paper towel in the container on top of the rice? Sorry if I'm completely misunderstanding something basic, thanks for the help.

Re: Reheating Rice
I've always thought of rice as so cheap that it's not worth saving to reheat???
Oh, and I like rice enough that I generally just eat all of what has has been made. |

Re: Reheating Rice
I am generally of the same opinion and am by no means a penny pincher, I always felt like it could be reheated successfully and I made 2x the amount I could eat.

Re: Reheating Rice
Sounds like you're using long grain rice. The starch in the rice crystallizes when cooked and cooled which results in rock hard little grains.
Switch to a short or medium grain rice. |

Re: Reheating Rice
If it's dry, make fried rice!

Re: Reheating Rice
Sprinkle some water on it and then cover w/ another plate before microwaving.

Re: Reheating Rice
Thanks guys, and Burgundy, you're overlooking the utter laziness that must be present for me to actually be reheating rice as opposed to making a fresh batch what with the ease of a rice cooker. It's not a horrible idea though...I guess...not really sure how to make fried rice but it seems like an ok idea.

Close the bag loosely and microwave it for about 20-30 seconds. |
