wierd line vs a showdown bound villian
villian is 62/31/2,2
ive seen him get out of line with wild bluffs and ive seen him make some bad calls. hero ($1646.50 in chips) villian covers hero - Posts big blind $10 hero has [4h 4d] utg Folds villian - Raises to $30 2 Folds hero - Calls $20 *** FLOP *** [4s 10c 7h] hero - Bets $50 villian - Calls $50 *** TURN *** [4s 10c 7h] [10s] hero - Checks villian - Bets $200 hero - Calls $200 *** RIVER *** [4s 10c 7h 10s] [8h] hero - Checks villian - Bets $310 hero - Raises to $750 villian - All-In (616.50 more) hero? I've been (successfully) experimenting with some (perhaps non-"optimal") value bets. I have a lot of thoughts on the hand but first i want to hear what people think (on all streets). thanks |

Re: wierd line vs a showdown bound villian
I've no idea why you played the hand this way. C/R flop, bet turn, shove river

Re: wierd line vs a showdown bound villian
you've got to know your opponent really well to ck the turn. If that gets ck thorugh it really sucks since you want to play a big pot.
On river anything that is calling your small raise is prob calling an AI so going allin is better so you dont miss value. |

Re: wierd line vs a showdown bound villian
I don't like the way you played this either. I don't mind your flop lead so much, but when you take this line I'd much rather bet bet bet v this guy.
When you checked turn I think you should CR, ditto river where I CRAI rather than a smaller CR |

What did you want to accomplish on the river?

Re: wierd line vs a showdown bound villian
"yuck"
this was my reaction when i first found this hand just b4 showing it to a friend who had the same reaction. Then i tried to remember why i played it so strange and heres my reasoning: [ QUOTE ] *** FLOP *** [4s 10c 7h] hero - Bets $50 [/ QUOTE ] I'm hoping to bet/raise. this is almost standard now with the idea that villians expect sets to checkraise. [ QUOTE ] villian - Calls $50 *** TURN *** [4s 10c 7h] [10s] hero - Checks villian - Bets $200 hero - Calls $200 [/ QUOTE ] on the flop i think the villian is very likely to be floating and would often raise any piece of the flop as a semi bluff. right now i dont think he has anything and i've seen him make gross desperation bluffs and payoffs on the river. This turn also reduces the chance he has a ten and doesnt improve any other hands. [ QUOTE ] *** RIVER *** [4s 10c 7h 10s] [8h] hero - Checks villian - Bets $310 [/ QUOTE ] He's no stranger to "dark tunnel bets" so this bet could mean anything. I think hands like QQ, AT, J9 and even 89(not a typo) are most likely. What are you putting him on? wa/wb? I think he will pay off most of these hands if i dont shove and only trip tens if i shove. I also think he might raise bluff some things. [ QUOTE ] hero - Raises to $750 villian - All-In (616.50 more) hero? [/ QUOTE ] again, id seen him do similar crap. i think this is 98, J9 or AT more often than TT, T7 or 77. [ QUOTE ] I've been (successfully) experimenting with some (perhaps non-"optimal") value bets. I have a lot of thoughts on the hand but first i want to hear what people think (on all streets). thanks [/ QUOTE ] until recently i was more rigid in my betting and would have never considered the raise i made. i would have called (and occasionally shoved). Recently i read someone's suggestion that if u make bets for less than their stack they will call more often than you should expect. Granted, this sounds like misplaced tournament advice, i thought id give it a try. |

Re: wierd line vs a showdown bound villian
I don't think this is ever 98 since he checks that behind like always I think. That being said, I would just shove the river yourself, and given description you obviously can't fold to his shove here. I don't mind this line if he gets out of line since he floats this flop a lot I think when you donk into him.
