yes there is. Read the rest of my post.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, there isn't. All you've said is that the discrimination occurs at the rank and file level of the military. This makes it worse, not better.

Well good for you.

Now let's go to the real world, since your obviously can't take your PC blinders off and consider the point I was trying to make and would rather resort to name calling.

Is it unfair that gays aren't allowed in the military and would they make just as good soldiers as non-gays. Absolutely.

Would they erode unit cohesion? They most likely would because, like it or not, most of the folks in the military would not take well to it. Maybe it isn't fair, but that's what must be done, at least until your rank and file members of the military are more accepting. And that will probably be in 50 years.e

There's more to it than "discrimination"

[/ QUOTE ]

in 20+ of the nato countries gays are allowed to serve and its doesnt seem to be a big deal.

I always liked this scene from season 1 of 'The West Wing'.
(If you don't know, Fitzwallace was a black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the first 4 seasons of the show. Majors Tate and Thompson were only in this one episode, they were debating the military policy on homosexuals with the white communications office (Sam) and Fitzwallace walks in unexpected).
[ QUOTE ]
Admiral Fitzwallace enters.

MAJOR TATE
Oh my God.

MAJOR THOMPSON
Attention!

The officers in the room swiftly stand straight.

FITZWALLACE
Good afternoon, Sam.

SAM
Mr. Chairman.

FITZWALLACE
Congressman.

KEN
How do you do admiral?

FITZWALLACE
Good to meet you again, Ken. [to Mike] We haven’t met.

MIKE
Mike Satchel.

FITZWALLACE
From Oregon?

MIKE
Yes, sir.

FITZWALLACE
Percy Fitzwallace.

MIKE
It’s an honor to meet you, admiral.

FITZWALLACE
I imagine it would be. Yes.

SAM
Uh, Major Tate, Major Thompson, this is Chairman Fitzwallace.

FITZWALLACE
They’re not gonna speak to me until I speak to them, Sam. They’re pretty well-trained.
[to Tate and Thompson] Stand easy, fellas. [sees the snack on the table]
Is this Danish for everybody?

SAM
Oh. Yes sir.

FITZWALLACE
[to Tate and Thompson] We’re discussing gays in the military, huh?

MAJOR THOMPSON
Yes sir.

FITZWALLACE
What do you think?

No response.

FITZWALLACE
I said what do you think?

MAJOR THOMPSON
Sir, we’re here to help the White House form a possible-

FITZWALLACE
I know. I’m asking you what you think.

MAJOR TATE
Sir, we’re not prejudiced toward homosexuals.

FITZWALLACE
You just don’t want to see them serving in the Armed Forces?

MAJOR TATE
No sir, I don’t.

FITZWALLACE
‘Cause they oppose a threat to unit discipline and cohesion.

MAJOR TATE
Yes sir.

FITZWALLACE
That’s what I think too. I also think the military wasn’t designed to be an instrument
of social change.

MAJOR TATE
Yes sir.

FITZWALLACE
The problem with that is that what they were saying to me 50 years ago. Blacks shouldn’t
serve with Whites. It would disrupt the unit. You know what? It did disrupt the unit.
The unit got over it. The unit changed. I’m an admiral in the U.S. Navy and chairman
of the Joint Chiefs of Staff...Beat that with a stick. [to Ken] We’ll see you, Ken.
[leaves]

[/ QUOTE ]

BTW, African-Americans represent b/w 15-20% currently fighting and dying in US unifrom in Iraq, but you know there are racists in the military so I think they shouldn't be there at all.

Alright, I've read on here and other places a lot of people saying Huckabee won.
I totally disagree with that. I'm going to go thru the transcript and look at each question he had:

Huckabee got killed on the immigration issue with regard to scholarships for children of illegal immigrants.
Next question was three departments he'd eliminate. Mentioned IRS and Flat tax. Ok, the usual, nothing notable here
Signed no tax pledge everyone else did, no big news here
Response to Thompson's video. Says he cut taxes. After debate CNN fact checks that he had a net tax raise of half billion dollars
Next question was abortion/death penalty. Gives a nice little christian conservative answer. Anderson gives a tough follow up with WWJD.
Next question they ask the baptist minister if he believes in the bible.
Now for Huckabee's video. Good little Christian Conservative, woo hoo.
Another question, this time gays in the military. Kind of plays off Hunter's answer
Log Cabin Republicans, "I'll take everyone's support." haha.
Space Exploration. Real toughy there. Send Hillary to Mars! oh Huck you kill me!
Black on Black crime. Quote "disproportionate amounts of help" nuff said

Let's review.
Scholarships to illegals. Net tax increase. Get the minority vote by giving them disproportionate help.
But dont forget this! Lot's of nice little ah shucks jokes and playing to the christian base.

[/ QUOTE ]

This would be true if the content of what the candidates were actually saying mattered in these things, but it really doens't. It seems it matters more how their message is delivered rather than the what.

Yeah, that's your problem. I fully disagreed with most of what Huckabee said last night, but I know he won the debate in the eyes of the voter. To me he further is his Christofacist image that I want nothing to do with. But he composed himself well in answering every question, never faltered and gave some impressive rhetoric. It seemed as though all the other republicans were fighting for their lives up there on stage while Huckabee was just shooting the breeze talking about his beliefs and how he loves God and America.

In a televised world words don't matter.

Yeah, I don't get what you mean there. I thought the pony references were always related to government programs.

"my pony too slow" was coined by borodog after he responded to one of those commie pinko "every child should have a pony" posts with a picture of a pony... seconds after I did the exact same thing. It should be noted, however, that my pony was not only faster, it was cuter.
