You have to get 1000 comp dollars in a year.

Someone posted recently that if you sit at 40-80 or higher and ask the floor they will get you a black card. I don't know if this even works but I think it is worth a shot.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you still need to put in a couple hundred hours at least but the floor definitely has discretion. After about 300 hours of any time game you should be able to get one by talking to a floor person you are friendly with. The time frame is one year, so thats like 10 hours a week to meet the letter of the requirements.

[/ QUOTE ]

Stan the poker room manager is the only person who can do this. He will give black cards to those who have logged significant hours at the higher limit games. In OP's case, he is highly unlikely to get a black card this way, since he only visits AC on occasion.

You need Diamond at Harrah's to get the Black Card at Borgata so that won't work since it requires the exact same amount of play.

[/ QUOTE ]
for regular casino games, Harrah's Diamond requires a lot less gambling to achieve compared to Borgata Black. there is also the "Diamond In A Day" program where if you play through 30% of the annual requirement in one shot, you get upgraded on the spot. then you can take that to the Borg where they have a very competitive offer for VIP players from other casinos.

Any idea of how much this would cost? Like how much you'd have to spend on slots/craps/bj/etc?

diamond in a day (DIAD) requires 3000 tier points earned within a specified 24-hour accounting period. usually 6am-6am but sometimes midnight-midnight, check with the casino desk before playing. generally the best strategy is to play video poker, it's $10 coin-in per tier point so you need $30k to qualify. if you play 9/6 JoB in $1 denom ($5 per spin) you could probably make it in 6-8 hours if you're fast and experienced. your theoretical loss is about $150 but with volatility and standard deviation you should probably budget as much as $2000-2500 just to be safe. from numerous reports in VP forums, typically people are "spending" $500-1000 for the cause. I don't have any estimates on how much table games play would be needed for the same deal, I can't see it being better than VP though.

once you are diamond you will get a crapload of room offers for the four Harrah's-owned hotels in AC, and unlimited use of their Diamond lounges (decent free food and booze). then take that card to Borgata, they will give you the Black Card, $100 free slot dollars, $20 free comp dollars, and one free night in their hotel (no date restrictions). I just booked my free date this past friday, which would have cost $400 normally, and there is no upfront play requirement.

just FYI they keep moving the threshold for diamond in a day. At Rincon (california) it changed to 4000. So be sure to ask someone at the Total Rewards desk before embarking on this quest. Also it is a "temporary" diamond in that if you do not get to 10000 points by year end you get only 3 months of the next year (or something like that...maybe it expires right at the end of the first year).

Thanks for the great response.

I'll probably spend $150/year in parking alone, but I don't think I can handle the SD at this point. Especially if its only a temporary diamond.

Hmm... I wouldn't actually want a Diamond card though. I'd just use it to get the Black Label Card. Once you get the Black Label Card, do you have to continue to meet certain requirements to keep it?

I got one of these in the mail a little while ago. I believe it said on the flyer that you get 25k points with your first purchase on the card. This would appear to be the easiest way to achieve the status but again, this needs to be confirmed as I'm only going off of memory.

Edit: found the thingy online, and its 2500 points for first purchase. Linky

those are reward credits, not tier credits. you can't become a casino VIP just by using an everyday charge card.

all Diamond and Black cards are technically "temporary" since they expire within a year. however, if your VIP membership lapses, you should be able to do DIAD again, AND get the borgata Black upgrade again as well (along with the same bonus dollar and one free room perks).

if you want to renew Borgata Black the regular way, it's the same $1000 annual comp dollar requirement. however, I've heard reports that EXISTING Black card holders can get renewed by a host for less if the casino feels their overall action is worthy in the long run.

I play more than just poker in the casinos, so I just keep my Harrah's Diamond renewed which maintains Borg Black at the same time (plus Gold level at the Venetian in LV, for those that care).
