Default Changing gears at NLHE - do you? Why, when and how?

Thoughts would be appreciated from those who change gears in a session as to why, when and how they do it.

You change when you think a reasonable number of players have a specific impression of you. Playing against impression before they catch on is profitable.

Going from LAG to tight - you retain your lag impression for a few rounds, so when you hit a hand, much more likely to get action.

Going from tight to LAG - your loose raises get respect, and much higher fold equity.

This works less well, the lower the levels.

I do this occasionally although it generally is because I have been catching good cards but winning without anyone seeing them. In this case I will go a bit more nitty because I expect people to start playing back at me.
