Mike Tyson is the clear winner. Beating him was a deed of legendary proportions back in elementary school.

Bah. It was easy. Dodge for 1:30 and then your fine. The only way you have trouble is if you miss time a dodge.

Tyson/Mr Dream in Punchout
Super Macho Man in Punchout

Shadow of the Colossus is almost entirely boss fighting. The only other thing you do is travel to the next boss fight. The game is beautiful and the boss battles are great and satisfying.

the helicopter fight and the sniper rifle fights in metal gear solid for the psx.

Perfect. A lot of people forget how mindblowing that game was when it came out.

The best fight in the series however is in MGS3 against The End. It's a cat and mouse sniper battle in a huge area against an ancient sniper who uses camo so well that you have to use instruments to find him. It can take over an hour the first time through. It can be annoying but it's incredibly innovative.

For RPGs I'd have to say Velius from FF Tactics. His fight is somewhere in the middle of the game, and there's an unexitable save point right before it. He's tough. So tough in fact that if you've just been going along with the story and not done any extra leveling, there's a decent possibility that you have no chance of beating him. And if you used the save point right before him, you can't get out to do more leveling. So it's a boss so powerful that it makes you restart the whole damn game. I know two people who had to do this, and it was hilarious each time.

I loved all of the Dr. Robotnik battles in the Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Also, just getting to face Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat II was an accomplishment in itself because Kintaro was so [censored] hard in that game.

Same thing for me. Except it sucked getting pwned by Shao Kahn shortly after beating Kintaro :[

The original Doom and Doom 2 had great boss battles (the giant with rockets attached to his arms and the gigantic spider).

Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7.

Just about every boss fight in Metroid Prime. I guess I would particularly say the Omega Pirate and Metroid Prime itself.

Even though he's kind of a minor boss, I always got a kick out of The Butcher in Diablo.
