$1/hr is pretty standard at most Vegas poker rooms. Some have alternative deals, like 4 hours of play gets you a $4 comp or $6 comp. Some have bizzare, unwritten, inexplicable rules that depend on the whim of the floor people. And Imperial Palace at $2/hr that goes right on the IP card and so can be used to pay for almost anything is probably the peak of Vegas strip poker room comps.

You ain't gettin' no free room for playing poker unless you put in 24 hours/day at IP and get a good mid-week $45/day deal. And if you're in the poker room for 24 hours, you really didn't need the hotel room.

elliot - it's a fair question for someone who hasn't been to LV.

In Tunica they throw out comps like they are candy.
Sit-down at the 4/8 limit game at the Horseshoe. 20 mins later ask for a buffet-comp for 2. Not a problem.

Also worth noting that some people think the Tunica-Horseshoe buffet is better than any buffet in LV.

Had no idea comps for poker-players didn't work like that in LV until I went there for the first time.

Agreed that comps differ. Tunica - easy free buffet. And the buffet was surprisingly good, considering it was free. However I certainly don't think it beats everything in Las Vegas. Right off the top of my head, Bellagio and Mirage were better, and Mandalay Bay was at least as good. I've heard Wynn is at least as good as Bellagio.

Comps in Las Vegas were much lower. At Excalibur, you get a $4 coupon for one of their restaurants (not even good at the food court, where it conceivably could cover a small meal.) I don't even ask at the Bellagio - I'm not sure they give you anything at all. The drinks there are good though. Strawberry Julius - mmm.

They give $15meal discount cards good at any food place. I use them at the buffet for lunch, which then comes out to $10 which is a good price for their high quality buffet.

At the Wynn you get a discounted room ($129 weekday, $199 weekend) for 6hrs play/day. When I was there over St. Patricks day weekend I was also able to get 2 partial buffet comps ($20 off per) after playing all weekend (around 30hrs) and toking the floor. YMMV.

Treasure Island (TI) also gives $2 per hour comps to all players (tournies excepted). Only IP and TI do this.

At IP, like you said, the comps can be used for anything, including the gift shop and can even be applied to your hotel bill. Many poker rooms have poker room rates, which offer discounted hotel room prices on the condition that you play a certain number of hours in the poker room each day.

At TI, you can use the $2 per hour in any of TI's restaurants.

Many places that give you $1 per hour allow you to use it in only specific restaurants.

Also, poker comps usually must be gotten from the desk in the poker room first, before going to the restaurant.

The Wynn also lets you split the hours per day over everyone staying in the room. Also, you can split the hours over your stay of x days however you want, as long as you hit 6*x hours total. Not all the casinos are that nice about it.
