I see lots of people crapping all over Jamie Gold, but OP lost the hand with an ulucky river. Even without implied odds, Jamie was priced into the hand with a pair and a flush draw (which the OP acknowledged was a possibility in his mind). I'd like to hear from OP what caused him to decided on a $7k raise, guaranteeing that Jamie would get better than 2-1 on his call ... why that amount?

btw just because it might +EV for Jamie to call the raise, it's not necessarily a mistake for OP

i was about to say that myself, almost word for word
and btw...im using the "i've got threes up" quote as often as possible from now on

Basically it's much more of a mistake not to raise at all... if Jamie's hand was face up you'd charge him more to see the river, but there's a range of hands with much less equity against you that you want to call.

I hate putting my stack in with top top kicker for thse most part. It seems to always lose in a big pot. Jamie isn't that much of a donk to go all in dark on the river and expect you to fold with that much in the pot already. You are beat my friend.

I don't understand how preflop is ever ok. He is going to call any hand he opened with, so why exactly don't you want to raise? If you have position and always play better and he hangs himself, you want as much money in the pot on every street as possible, calling preflop doesn't really accomplish that.

plus you isolate him... yumm yumm

gold's game is breakeven at best in a vacuum...and he also has a bad reputation, which at times does get him a lot more loose action...i understand how he can accumulate chips quickly in a tourney...and how he sometimes wins in cash games because no one wants to lose a hand to a guy like him...but he's not necessarily "easy"to beat...yes over time you can run him over...

as for preflop, i generally raise 90% of time...but i didnt here...maybe if had been one hand later, i would have...also, rerasing in this game did not mean i was isolating gold...more likely it meant everyone knew gold would call, so there would be a couple of unknown players calling behind me...so yes, i would have position on gold, but probably would have played a big hand with AK out or position against most of the field...

for all you guys who say you hate getting all your money in with a hand like AK with one pair, i think you are missing the point...i felt very good about being ahead of his range and wanted to charge him...i feel my mistake here was more that i didnt raise bigger - not that i should have called and had to make a decision on over half the deck being a scary river...i, and my opponents, generally know i make very thin decisions and will put the money in based on them...sometimes thats bad, but it also gets me paid off a lot..

He said something when he was on HSP about he always plays 32- with some kind of comment like "I know it's usually a stupid play, but I swear it hits a lot."
