Default $115 - Live 70ppl - QT 3-handed

Simple question. Three handed, chip leader has double me, I have double shorty. Shorty pushes preflop. I have QT.

Is this an obvious fold? As I've improved I'm facing more short-handed tournament situations, unfamiliar territory. My only real frame of reference is my regular home cash games where this is an easy call against most of my crazy opponents, but of course that's an entirely different game.

Any reads, are you in blinds, what are blinds and antes, payouts?

Pretty sure I'm folding.

Need more infos.

It matters if we are in SB, and the leader is yet to act behind. It matters if we are in BB how big the blinds are relative to the shortie push. Shorties tendancies also matter.

In an obvious example or two...

Blinds 1k/2k Shorty has 4k, we have 8k, CL has 16k. Shorty pushes from button. CL folds from SB. We fast call from the BB so fast CL cards prolly havent even hit the muck and we have called. (were 2k to win 7k we cant fold even if hes only pushing top 5%, and we know hes wider than that)...

OR

Blinds 400/800 He has 4k, we have 8k in SB, CL has 16k in BB. Shorty pushes. We drop our cards as fast as you can blink. (were 3600 to win 5200 and we have potential action behind [so even heads up we would need him to be pushing wider than top 30% and thats not giving our chips a premium, which we should] and CL is almost OBLIGATED to make a call with any two cards)

So yeah, the specifics matter

this can not be answered unless i have your stack his stack and the blinds antes. are you sb or bb? you can call here and gamble under a lot of circumstances q 10 is not terrible 3 handed. plus it slows ppl down bc you are not afraid to call

I agree with others here. We need more info. I know from my own experience, trying to recall live hands can be a little difficult somtimes, but I think you can probably get close.

- Give your actual position relative to the other players.
- Estimate stacks, including your own
- Blind levels
- Your "General" read on your opponent(s)

This should suffice to give the thread the necessary information to respond.

Okay, my reads... here's one, I had been awake for 22 hours, including going to the gym, playing in my weekly Monday night game which went longer than usual, and then an 8 hour work shift, immediately into this tournament. So, y'know, mental capacity not at full.

I think I had too many chips. If I recall, blinds were 2k/4k, shorty had 40k, I had 80k. Shorty was SB, I was BB.

I fold here unless you've seen SB push with air in the past, and even then it would be a difficult call. I don't really see the need of taking an unnecessary risk in this situation given your stack.

I acted too quickly without thinking. In my mind he had fewer chips, I think.

Oh well.

Don't know what payouts are so I'll assume "0", "25", "100" - doesn't matter if 3rd gets money, only matters ratio between 2 jumps, 1:3 seems normalish(?).
Fold: You: 76, Shorty: 44, Big 160. ICM = 37.5
Call & lose: You 40, Shorty 80, Big 160. ICM = 20.5
Call & win: You 120, Big: 160 ICM = 57.1
So we're looking at -17 for losing and +19.6 for winning, we need to win 46.4%. So he needs to be pushing the top 45% {according to pokerstove, I don't like it's selection of top x% very much but it won't make much difference) for this to be a good call & that seems unrealistic. Even we we say he wouldn't shove JJ+,AK he still needs to be pushing >35%, so I don't think this is a good call without strong reads.
