Today I went to the best Mexican restaurant in Palo Alto and ordered the usual, Chile Verde super burrito style to go. Total cost including tax was $5.99. I handed the cashier a $10 bill. He asked if I had an extra dollar. Just for that I left $2 in the tip jar.

All,

This seems like an appropriate place to ask this question.

Good waiter, have had appropriate amount of conversation with him, fun, friendly vibe for everyone.

Check comes and it's $189.55. You leave three hundred dollar bills.

Should he come back with $110 in change or $110.45?

El D,

How about door #3, $111? Symmetrical too - a hundred, a ten, a one.

maybe he was doing this because he was short on 1s and wanted to give you a $5 bill for change instead of 4 $1 bills? Or that it'd be easier for customer?

i think thats the point Boris was trying to make, that the guy was trying to do what would be most convenient for Boris instead of angling for a tip
