Default puking during exercise

I've been participating in a research study for my roommate in which I have to perform intense training on an exercise bike in attempt to improve my oxygen uptake (no idea what this means). Anyway, the training involves 1 minute of rest followed by 1 minute at 120% of my maximum theoretical workrate. It's incredibly tough.

They've always put a bucket next to the bike in case I feel the need to spew, but I never have. I've heard of people saying they've felt like puking during/after an intense workout, and I've felt this way myself, but I've never actually heard of someone doing it. Am I just not working hard enough? Does it even happen?

This happens a lot. It's pretty unhealthy if you are pushing yourself that hard.

I've done it a few times during wrestling practice, particularly at the beginning of the season. I've seen it happen a lot.

Rowers are known to puke after certain difficult workouts on a rowing machine (/brag). I've had it happen 2-3 times.

I've seen this happen to runners and swimmers a fair amount. The guy who invented the Nautilus machines has said that if you've never thrown up after doing a single set of bicep curls, you're not working hard enough.

I puked probably 2-3 times running track in H.S. Not an uncommon occurence when training hard (and being pushed by coaches).

During figure skating stroking exercises (thirty minutes of intense skating drills, basically) right after our spring break/time off, there would often be girls puking all over. But they were pretty much upchuck experts anyhow.

Once during a tough swimming workout, but just the once.

this kind of interval training is called HIIT...google it...i think it deals with acid reflux, but continued training like this will reduce the effect as your body gets in better shape and gets used to teh routine...

I almost lost a pre-workout meal when I first started doing squats. Clearly I wasn't trying hard enough.

Friends of mine in HS who ran cross-country all lost their lunch on routes at one time or another, one guy on a regular basis. Folks learned not to tail him too closely.
