Default Knights of Columbus local card tournaments?

This may be the wrong forum for this since it's not actually a casino, but wasn't sure where else to put this.

The local Knights of Columbus I noticed is running a Texas Hold 'em tourney for a $30 buy in, top prize is $700 and pays out to 9th place [$50]. I know very liyyle of the KofC, so was curious if anyone's ever played at something like this. It seems to be open to the public, but I'm going to call to make sure. I was wondering what to expect. Is this just going to be a big recruitment drive, with some poker on the side [Not only am I not Catholic, I'm not even Christian, so I don't want to deal with this]. Or is this just going to be a bunch of old guys playing very bad poker, which seems greatly +EV.

I realize each game will be different, just curious if anyone's played in this type of thing before.

KoC is a very long standing hardcore Catholic group of usually older men.

Catholics are not like Mormons or Jehova's Witnesses, they don't do hardcore recruiting/missionary work. It is probably just a regular fundraiser where the juice goes toward the local KoC chapter.

Go and have a good time. Probably +EV, though I would not go expecting a hardcore poker tournament (i.e. leave the shades and ipod at home).

Thanks for the info! And the juice is pretty high for this, but I expect the play is pretty weak. But in worst case, I get to play a live 100+ person tourney for $30. And don't worry, I neither wear shades nor listen to an iPod when I play.

Touche. In retrospect, I should have mentioned that I was referring to them in the US, where LDS and JW are known for door to door missionary work much moreso then others.
