Inflation\'s effect on Poker Limits
I just read a post that alluded to this, and I've been wondering about it for awhile now, does inflation affect the limits casinos offer?
I'm sure it does to some extent but in say 10 years will casinos stop offering 2/4 limit because they can't make enough off of it. Did casinos use to offer 1/2 limit in the past? If so, how long ago? I'd find any other thoughts on this interesting. |

A casino near my city, Northern Quest, still spreads 1/2lhe at least on weekends.

Re: Inflation\'s effect on Poker Limits
Any limit is spreadable with the proper rake. The poker room in many places, though certainly not all, doesn't generate a ton of cash. However, those pit games where poker players go to steam off their last money/extra winnings do in fact make money.

Re: Inflation\'s effect on Poker Limits
Of course. It wasn't that long ago that all but the swankiest Vegas casinos had $2 blackjack. These days it's not easy to find a $10 table.

Re: Inflation\'s effect on Poker Limits
The difference between poker and pit games is that rake in poker is controlled separately from bet size. Inflation (and market conditions, etc) mean the rake will rise over time, but limits spread are more a function of demand than inflation.
2/4 may well be spread in 10 yrs, but with a $6 rake. If beginning players prefer that to 3/6 with $6 rake, then 2/4 will still be spread. There is some limit to this, but the limit is high-- witness the $2/2 games spread in Florida. Those have $4 rake, no? 2BB raked, yet there's plenty of demand. -Curtis |
