Not trying to troll this thread, i just find this topic very interesting.

I wonder what it is in the way people operate/think that makes one more attracted to the casino lifestyle of poker as opposed to staying home grinding daily.

There has to be some correlation, possibly the way they grew up, something triggering their preference right?

I would love to hear someone with more of a psychological background comment on this.

Live poker is a social game. From entertaining other players, to reading them, to being read. Players that are good at the social aspect of live poker are likely extroverts. They enjoy being around people, they thrive on it. Sitting at home on the computer might be akin to sticking a sharp stick in their eye, especially if they are alone. They thrive from being around other people.

I suspect a good portion of online players are more towards the introverted side, those who can do just fine alone in a room with their computer. Some of them even recharge from it, and being around a bunch of people is not their ideal environment.

So I would guess that at the very least the typical top tier live player is someone who has developed social skills and is likely much more comfortable in an environment surrounded by other people.

I think the online mixture is a bit different now, but still hardcore extroverts would never be comfortable sitting at home by themselves playing with their computer.

I don't know many highstakes players. But why i don't hear anything about ziigmund? I see him playing against everybody on ftp, is he not one of the topplayers, or is he "just" a live player?

When the big 1k/2k NLHE/PLO game was running at the WSOP this summer, wasn't it often full ring or close to?

And didn't Barry Greenstein say that Aba was doing the BEST out of everyone there? (And Antonius WAS in that game for some of it. Ditto with Kenny Tran, Bobby Baldwin, etc.). And wasn't it fairly deepstacked?

And Aba IS considered primarily an Internet player. So despite Greenstein's acknowledgement that Aba was performing the best there, and Antonius' knowledge of Aba's ability - Antonius is basically saying Aba even then isn't one of the top 20 NLHE live deep stacked full ring players?

I think Taylor Caby is right. Seriously it sounds like Antonius is just being clever about this. No way Aba performs as well as he did, even with Greenstein's comments, and not be even considered by Antonius as one of the top 20. That is really ridiculous.

I agree....

When I play "live" I just buy in for 100-120 bbs. Then it doesn't matter how much "500 bb poker" they're used to...cause buying in shorter makes them play my game.

I wish I stopped buying property and just moved up limits (in live poker that is)...cause 10/20 and 25/50 NL at the bellagio is SICK SOFT! Feels like I'm playing back on party poker 2/4 NL (when it was 200 buy in and the highest game on pp)
