2.5 hour layover in Vegas

I have a layover in vegas on a saturday between 5:50 and 8:15 PM. Is it worth trying to leave the airport to do something or should I just stick to the slots at the terminal? Any ideas?

Sat nights the airline passenger traffic should be light, so coming back through security should not be a problem (don't try this on Sunday night). Still, 2.5 hrs is not much time and I'd probably just kick back in the terminal. If you really want to go somewhere a cab to Mandalay Bay (or someplace in the immediate vicinity) should be less than a 10 min cab ride. You'd probably have an hour at most to spend before having to head back. You'll have to decide if that's worth it to you.

Free wifi in the airport. Just bring your laptop and play online poker to get your gambling fix.

No. At LAS you're supposed to be checked in for your flight 60 minutes early. I'm not sure this is enforced but it is technically the rule. I say stick with the airport slots/online poker via wifi. Me, I just go find a bar and swill a $9 whiskey, but that's me.

Absolutely worth it to leave and go gamble craps, etc.

In fact, McCarran is the rare U.S. airport (if not the only) that is offering lockers again. They are available for use behind security at the A and B gates, between screening and the center area where you split to A or B gates. Close to shoe shine and chocolate stores if you know them.

Use a locker, bring your boarding pass and ID, and then head out through security to grab a cab and gamble. Hard Rock is close to the airport. So is MGM. Wynn is not such a bad cab ride, either. You don't want to cross the Strip if you can avoid it.

(Even without the locker, you can bring bags and just leave them with bell desk where you gamble - but I would rather avoid it and use the locker since you can.)

Then get back in time for boarding your connecting flight.

Do not worry about a 60 minute early check-in - you are already checked in and have your boarding pass, this is a connecting flight.

I would however, take a look at the security line when you leave the airport, and the cab line when you arrive at your destination casino. Those are going to be your tiem constraints in getting back to the airport.

assuming you have the ability to get up from a blackjack table go for it, if i were in your shoes i would miss my flight in this situation a good amount of the time.

I missed a flight out of Las Vegas on purpose when I was in a good hold em game. They allowed me to fly standby on the next flight for $50. This was about ten years ago so you may want to check with the airlines. 9/11 changed many of the airlines procedures.
