the river raise seems good here.

He's giving you such good odds on the turn though that I really like just a call here since being reraised here sucks and he's likely to pay you off on the river if you hit or you can bluff a diamond easily.

I think the problem is that he's shown some strength in the hand. I like to reserve my big bluffs for people who have not shown strength in a hand... eg. calling/checking the whole way down. The turn raise I especially like. I think you could of made it a LOT more on the turn, make your semi bluff there, and make it a strong one so you get the most fold equity on the turn and the possibility to stack him if he calls and you hit. Now when he leads out and bets at the river I think it's time to give up. There's something so fishy about that river bet, and it would signal to me he's got something he likes. Unless I know he's a very good player, capable of making big laydowns, I'd probably have to concede to that paltry river bet.

It wasn't against Lee, I think it was Cutty's friend. We talked about this after the guy left, it was interesting because the guy had lost a big pot not long before when he got check-raised on the turn on a 8 high board and claimed to lay down KK, and wasn't sure if he got bluffed off of it or not. The river bet signaled rediculous weakness though.

it's been said before, but in live games the absolute value of money holds much greater sway than the bet size in relation to the pot.

[/ QUOTE ]

i've noticed this too. why do you think bets/raises in relation to pot-size are often smaller in live games?

[/ QUOTE ]

People are afraid to lose because it might take forever for them to make it back given how slow live games play. Also, when you sit there for hours counting your chips/keeping a tally of your winnings/admiring your stack sizes it makes you more attached to your chips and less willing to part with them. Also, people don't keep track of the pot size because it takes too much attention given that the number isn't just sitting there like it is online. Also, live players tend to suck.

If the guy is a complete fish, which is the vibe I'm getting, then check/calling to the river would be my move. I hate to be such a pansy, but against a fish bluffing, even semi bluffing, is awfully difficult
