Re: Going to take the LSAT in October, just started prep yesterday...
Assuming you're talking about the reading comprehension section, skimming is incorrect. Read looking for the main point, and to identify the logical structure/organization of the passage. They are correct that memorizing every detail isn't important- unless those details are vital to the logical structure. But don't go into the questions without knowing what the main point is. 90% of the time there is at least one question on it.
There are forums for LSAT studiers btw. One thing that helps for some people is to read the first sentence of each paragraph, and then read the passage. That way you already pretty much know the main point / structure, and will just be filling in the details. |

Re: Going to take the LSAT in October, just started prep yesterday...
Just took my second practice test and got a 172 and I figure there are 5-6 points lurking around that I will be able to get by not making careless mistakes... Which I will avoid by cultivating discipline, which I will do by taking tons of practice tests.

Re: Going to take the LSAT in October, just started prep yesterday...
I've taken like 10 preptests now ranging from 172 to 180. My last 3 were 176, 177, 180.
They're early ones though and RC is by far my worst section which apparently gets a lot harder in more recent tests. |

Re: Going to take the LSAT in October, just started prep yesterday...
You could make your life a lot easier by having no ambition. I knew I wanted to go to either of two law schools that didn't require spectacular scores. After I scored a 168 on the one practice exam I took I didn't do anything else except a few game drills a few days before. Only scored a 165, though.

[/ QUOTE ] Anyone seriously considering law school should ignore this advice. Unless you know you want to go to a specific law school AND have a score capable of getting you their highest scholarship, then you should still bust your ass to get it. I had a law school in mind when I started doing the whole LSAT thing. My initial practice scores were in the range. I kept studying anyways. Improved my score. Went to that same school. Got scholarships I wouldn't have otherwise gotten. Saved 100k. |
