Default Increasing The Number Of Years One Can Live

What are the best things a person can do to increase the number of years one is likely to live?

Obviously, if a person smokes cigarettes, #1 would be QUIT NOW! What would #2 be? #3? Any unusual ideas out there?

Have a great day!

i have heard in a couple of my classes that there is some research being done on the effects of free radicals and aging. The thought is that if you increase the amount of antioxidents ingested then the amount of free radicals floating around in your body decreases which also decreases the amount of free radical damage done to cells. This would lead to living longer.

If you eat about 40% less you should be able to extend your lifespan by about 40%.

In Michio Kaku’s new book, “Visions” he mentions many animals that currently exist that do not age:
"Immortal animals, those which increase their body size by time, lobsters, flounders, sharks, sturgeons, and alligators, show no noticeable sign of aging measurable in a laboratory. They are only limited by their predators. Such observations indicate that "age genes" do exists!"

edit - please note, that my quote of Kaku, was off the internet. As I recall from the book, he went into more detail and did not say "exists" - he might of said exist. I'm not sure, you'll have to get his book. I recommend all of his books.

- mutate so as to not require oxygen

- excerise regularly (and maintain a healthy weight)
- minimize stress in your life (change careers if need be)
- get blood work done every or every other year

Every time I read a paper on this I think "If you're doing that, what's the point of living longer?"

I think of the old (sadly not very funny) joke

if you abstain from drink, eat the right things, go to the gym etc. etc. then you may not live longer but it will sure seem like you do.

and remember what befell the last 2+2er to obsess on SMP about living forever.
