when to move up to 2/5NL?
I started playing 1/2NL live about 6 months ago and I am consistently winning, having built up a $3000 bankroll.
Should I try moving up to 2/5NL? I play in AC, if I do decide to do it when and where would be the best place to sit down for the first time. I have actually played 2/5NL once before but that was at The Bellagio and the buy-in was capped at $200. I did win in that session. Any suggestions will be appreciated. |

Re: when to move up to 2/5NL?
How much of a bankroll did you have when you started playing 1/2NL?
How hard would it be for you to replenish your bankroll if you lost it all?? |

Re: when to move up to 2/5NL?
A $3K BR is not nearly enough to make a move to 2/5. That is equal to about 6 buy-ins, which frankly you could go thru playing your A game on a great table in one session.
It is enough to take shots though. When you are on your A game and the 2/5 is fishy, sit with less than a max buy-in. If the game turns bad, rack up and move down. If you lose that buy-in move down and win it back before returning to 2/5. Once you have between 15-30 buy-ins, look to make a more perminate move. |

Re: when to move up to 2/5NL?
I play at the Borgata 2/5 game alot and it's a big difference since there are a whole bunch of regulars that play on those games for a living. Unless u get a table full of tourists and casual players -- the 2/5 games during the WEEKDAYs are kinda tight. Hands that you might have been getting paid off in the 1/2 game -- u will probably not get paid off in the 2/5 game there.
Plus if you are asking if you should move up -- you shouldnt and someone said it right --- if you not playing for a living -- Why not move up! |

Re: when to move up to 2/5NL?
I'm not playing for a living. I suspected that some people played 1/2 for a living and now it seems that it is true. Must be a hard way to earn money to pay the bills at the 1/2 tables.
I think taking a shot with 1 or 2 buyins on a weekend night might be a plan considering when I started 1/2 I had nothing but my first buy-in in front of me. I won my first session and never had to use my own money again. |

Re: when to move up to 2/5NL?
When you cross-post, it's a good idea to post a link to your post on other forums so that we can see what other people have to say on the topic.
Now for a cross-reply: You can take an occasional shot at the $2-5 while continuing to build bankroll at the $1-2. The min. buyin at the Borgata $2-5 is $100 so if you're willing to play a mechanical short-stack game until you double through a couple of times, you can start to gain some $2-5 experience without putting too much of your bankroll at risk. But consensus [on SSNL] is correct; don't start thinking of $2-5 as your bread-and-butter on such a short roll. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think $3000 is not quite enough BR to work for you in 2/5. If you are playing for fun and to earn some extra money as I do and you really have been successful at 2/3 then give it a shot with 3 buy-ins ready ($600). At The Bike though we can re-buy for 150% which I recommend if your local casino allows it. If you lose it on the first try then go back to 2/3 for a while and build up your BR to $8000 - $10,000 before going back. The 2/5 typically plays stronger than the 2/3 so your game will need to be better as well. I did the same thing you are attempting and it has worked out. |

Re: when to move up to 2/5NL?
2/3 is a California thing. 1/2 then 2/5 is far more common on the East Coast.
Min and max buyins are at the Borgata wiki page; I updated them recently so I'm pretty sure they're correct. I think other AC games tend to be the same as the Borg's, not 100% about that though. |
