Default Last stages of tournament play

ok, I'd love to start a dsicussion about the later stages of tournament play because that's what I'm struggling with the most atm

when we're getting near the end and I have a decent stack (average or better) I get aggressive with it bc I have my eyes on the main prize, stealing and restealing, however I always get burnt

so I'm thinking maybe I need to sit back more and just grind it out, playing more of the nitty TAG style I play early on

basically, what I'm looking for is how you guys adjust your play when you get to the last 2/3/4 tables with a decent stack (playing the short stack is pretty straightforward)

I have trouble toward the end too. I probably don't steal enough and resteal rarely because restealing requires a big stack unless you're going to gamble allin.

It sounds like you might be too agressive if you are always getting burnt.

yeah, I'm very aggressive bc I feel it's worth it to aim for 1st

as a result I make almost no FT's, but when I do it's with a big stack which always gets me far, which is good bc the prize distribution is always steep

finished 1st in a 30 rebuy tourney tonight, playing my aggressive style, but I'm still not sure if it's optimal

I have a high % ITM finishes playing TAG but a very low % FT's when I start getting aggressive, but when I do make a FT I often finish high

I'm just curious if any succesful MTT players have an opinion on the matter

When you are a big stack, you can often re-steal successfully against the loose big stacks that are always stealing. They will rarely ever call you b/c they will be scared. This works best if the re-steal is an all-in push by you.

I personally have had some success with remaining tag, picking your spot and playing the situation/players

It depends on your stack and the type of players you have at your table I think. If you have the stack for it,restealing is definately a good way to keep increasing your stack, and if your table is weak and afraid of going out before the money....mmm...mmmmm!!

Seems like you are pretty laggy, nothing wrong with that, but you still have to pick your spots I think. Fine line between that and just giving your chips away,if you know what I mean. If you keep raising mediocre hands constantly, people will pick up on it and start playing back at you.Personally, when I have a big stack I try and push the medium stacks around, and stay away from small and big stacks unless I actually have a hand.
