Default Sneaking UIGEA to my congressman via IRAQ back door....

My silly congressman (Sandy Leven - D Michigan, who voted For the on-line gambling Ban in the legistlation previous to UIGEA)sent out a survey requesting my feedback about the "non-binding" IRAQ Referendum... (where else but the US can a governmental body actually spend time debating a bill that has no meaning???)

I figured I take this opportunity to slip in my $0.02 on an unrelated matter....

[ QUOTE ]
We're once again fighting a military war by policicians.... It's too little too late... We should have supplied the ample militiary force recommended by our militiary leaders 4 years ago when we invated ( and was rejected by Bush). Our only hope is to add the requested buildup... but it's too little, too late (I fear). Leaving now is a worse alternative. I fear that leaving now or later will have dire consequences either way... Damned if we do, damned if we don't....

BTW, Please support Online Gambling, or at least a Poker carve out (unrelated, and admittedly inconsequential related to Iraq... but a significiant source of revenue none the less)

How about making a better tie-in and add a little mustard:

"Our brave soldiers are surely playing poker in their barracks while in Iraq. Yet many of your fellow representatives would call them criminals for enjoying this truly American game when they return home.

I know this silly situation is typical of lawmaking for generations, but now that you and fellow members of your party are intent on cleaning up these messes, would you consider legislation that would allow Americans to play poker legally whether across the Internet or at the kitchen table?"

you could also note the irony of endangering american lives to prevent a fundamentalist islamic government from forming in IRAQ, when we can't prevent a fundamentalist christian government from imposing it's religion on the citizens here in America.

Well, since we're on politics, if you personally support the invasion, the occupation, and the current buildup, then I kindly invite you to enlist and join, and put your money where your mouth is.

If you aren't prepared to actually join the military and be put in a position where you can be deployed to Iraq, you have little gravitas behind supporting a war that was fought not for freedom, but for Halliburton, and for Bush's personal vendetta against Saddamn Hussein.

Signed,
a 13-year veteran.

You were probably just looking to vent, but...restricting this to the UIGEA topic (the rest is for Politics Board), since when are Casino, NCAA, and NFL lobbyists fundamentalists?

It was general "insider gossip" that a key reason the UIGEA was pushed hard at the last minute was pressure from the NFL lobby.

My faaabulous Senator Feinstein, not exactly a "fundamentalist" is a big-time opponent of online gaming.

Poker-lovers need to stop assuming those who disagree with us are all Southern Baptists. Politicians generally oppose online gaming for a variety of reasons, and we need to deal with those issues.

Fundamentalist Christian groups have not been able to prevent the growth of lots of legal poker rooms in areas of this country, so they alone weren't able to drive this legislation either.

I wish I could boycott the NFL, but can't bring myself to do it.
