Where in Mexico?
Hey all. Some friends have given me a trip and I just thought I'd quiz you knowledgeable and worldly folks on my options. I can choose from Cancun, Acapulco, Cabo san Lucas or Puerto Vallarta. Anyone have experience with any of these destinations? I'm going alone and for three days.
Also, I'm pretty sure poker is illegal in Mexico - can anyone verify? Thanks in advance. = DM = |

Re: Where in Mexico?
I've been to Cabo, it was nice, but expensive. Living in L.A. I've been to Mexico many times (tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada) and I expect it to be less expensive than the U.S. I didn't find that the case in Cabo. I felt like I was in Palm Springs, price-wise (food, drinks, entertainment). Strippers were cheap though
If you fish, cabo is great. Seas are rough, so don't be seasick. Golf is great, but expensive (Palm Springs-ish). I've been to Puerto Vallarta, but just for a day on a cruise and spent the time in a bar, so can't give you much there. I'm going to Cancun next week, so I can give a TR on that |

All gambling is illegal in Mexico. [/ QUOTE ] Not actually true. There are a couple major chains of bingo halls which also have sports and race books. Mostly located in the shopping malls. Haven't seen many of these in resort towns. No poker anywhere though. Of your choices, I like Puerto Vallarta the best. Great downtown, great restaurants (in the main downtown, not near resorts). Zihuatanejo is pretty cool to on the same vibe. If you just want mega-resort, Cancun might be easiest to deal with. |

Re: Where in Mexico?
A few years ago there was a nice larger sportsbook along the strip in Cancun.

I'm pretty sure poker is illegal in Mexico - can anyone verify? [/ QUOTE ] I'm in Southern California and have been considering moving across the border somewhere in North Baja, playing online in Mexico and playing live in San Diego. Does anyone know if playing online is illegal in Mexico? Would I have access to all the sites I can't access as a U.S. player? |

Re: Where in Mexico?
I was in Acapulco a couple years ago. man is it beautiful. It looks just like a postcard. Lots of great restaurants, bars, as well as local flavor stuff. The best thing to me was how service oriented the whole place was. As soon as they see you are an American, everyone treats you like a king. the strip clubs are cheap and they seat you right up front. the hotel people hem and haw over you. The clubs are filled with beautiful women who are looking for americans to hook up with. Of course all this was before all the murders and stuff. Don't know how safe it is right now, but I would go back in a heartbeat if given the chance.

Re: Where in Mexico?
I think it really matters what time of year you're going... as Cabo can get cold, and Cancun in summer is overly hot and muggy (same with Acupolco)... on average, Cabo is probably the most expensive of these places... I personally didnt' really like Cancun, but if you're into Mega Resort's, it's good.
I would choose Puerto Vallarta out of the four. |
