Default Tipping at buffets

At Souplantation (and similar buffet-restaurants) the only service that is given is the clearing of plates during and after your meal. However, I feel obligated to leave a small tip ($1) even though I wasn't waited on.

When people leave Souplantation, I look to see if they leave a tip. Most of the time, people leave nothing. But I've seen $2 tips at times. What is standard at places like this?

$1-$2... more if they refill your drink while you're mouth is full.

Totally depends on the level of service being provided. Some buffets load you up with a glass or two and a couple plates wherever you pay and you're sent off to fend for yourself ala survivorman. $0 tip here. Other places (golden corrall, most casinos, most chinese buffets) have waitresses who bring you drinks/rolls. Here $1-2 is pretty standard for 1 person. Happy ending is worth $5-10 tip imo.
