Live 3/6 vs. 1/5 ?
At the Trop in AC they've been spreading a 3/6 stud game (no ante, $1 bring in), replacing the 1/5 spread game.
I've been casually watching some the games, and while they pretty much have the same players, the pots seem a lot bigger to me. Could this be possible, would a 3/6 no ante be any better than 1/5 ? Also, what is the consensus on 2/10 no ante ? I've played it in Detriot (Greektown) & Tunica (Grand). I think it's a much better game than 1/5, even w/ no ante. Why don't poker rooms w/ 1/5 spread 2/10 instead ? |

The 2/10 at the Grand...lol...nice!!!
If I had my druthers, I'd take a 3/6 over a 1-5 I think. I'm not real fond of a spread limit game. Don't know why, I'm just not. |

I prefer structured games, but I can't stand no ante games. They invariably are visited by multiple rocks of Gibraltar and are not a lot of fun to play.

They really should pass around a dealer button at the 3/6 and have that player post an ante of $1.

more like $2, at least, $1 if it's short-handed. $3 would be great.
I don't understand no-ante games. |

Re: Live 3/6 vs. 1/5 ?
I usually play 5/10 (.50 cent ante, $2 BI) at the Trop. But, they've only been spreading 1 table of 5/10 & 2 3/6 tables, both with lists. Up until this spring, you'd have 3-4 1/5 games, & 2-3 5/10 games going at the same time.
My only problem with the 5/10 game is that since there is only one game going now, it seems like the same people are playing. The times I've watched the 3/6, it attracts all kinds of people, not just the AARP crowd. The pots seem much bigger than the old 1/5 games. I'm thinking that I should give the 5/10 a break and see if 3/6 is worthwhile. BTW, I asked a floorperson at the Trop why they got rid of 1/5. He said they weren't getting enough rake out of it. There were too many HU pots with the old timers checking down all the way. They were also told to spread only 2 3/6 games, and 1 5/10 at a time. He also said that they're seriously considering having a BBJ in the new poker room, whenever that happens. |

[/ QUOTE ] Following this logic, it makes no sense for the Trop to run their 3/6 games with no ante. I would imagine that if they would add an ante of just $.25 to this game, the Trop would make even more money on rake and players would enjoy a lot more action in the game. Ask the floorperson about this the next time you're there. |

Re: Live 3/6 vs. 1/5 ?
Logic would say that but, 90% of the stud players in AC (limits below $20/40) are 55+. They don't react well to any "change". The Sands (RIP) used to have 1/5 with a .25 cent ante. It was seen as an oddity in AC. Up until recently, every poker room in AC had at least 2 tables of 1/5 stud going.
Right now, the only LL ante stud games in AC are Bally's 1/5, Taj 5/10, & Trop 5/10. All have a .50 cent ante. Funny though, I've never heard anyone talk about the 1/5 game at Bally's. It's probably a real rockfest... |

[/ QUOTE ] I played it a while back because I used to get comped rooms there and it was a pretty wild game actually. In fact all the games there were I think because it was the only place smokers could play. There seemed to be a rather large crowd of smoking drunks playing all the games at night. I haven't been since they went non-smoking though so who knows what its like now. |
