Live $1-5, anyone still play ?
Just curious.....I've been reading about a lot of the newer cardrooms opening up recently. It seems that the only stud game spread nowadays is $1-5 (which I usually don't like).
But, I gave it a shot in a long session and did really well. My questions are, Does anyone still play live $1-5 ? Where are you guys playing ? If so, are you seeing + results ? |

Re: Live $1-5, anyone still play ?
I play mostly 1/5 and 5/10 at the Trop in AC. 1/5 tends to be a retirees game during the day but heats up to a more active game in the evenings. There area lot of HE players who donb't/can't/won't make game adjustments for Stud. Plus the passive nature of most STud players and the inability of many players to fold make 1/5 vey profitable,.
PS I once netted nearly $600 just by playing action addicted players in a 1/5 game who were waiting to be called to open 2/4 and 4/8 HE tables. Bigger poker rooms make room for plenty of Stud players (in AC, the Trop and Taj have plenty) |

Re: Live $1-5, anyone still play ?
Stud games are tough to find. Played 1-5 stud @ mirage last time i was in vegas, about 3 months ago. really tight game. bluffing was really easy. able to take down lots of smaller pots for a decent profit. had a lot of fun at this game. most of the players at this game had played for a very long time (20 years) instead of 2 weeks like the drunk college kids at the holdem tables. the only other stud game i found at the time was 20-40 at bellagio. 1-5 was WAY tamer than the 20-40.

Re: Live $1-5, anyone still play ?
I'll (sometimes) play $1-$5 w/o ante while waiting for a table in a real game, but it's more to have something to do to pass the time than it is real poker for me.
The most extreme case of this was at the 2004 WSOP, when the 50-100 stud/8 game was shut down so that the table could be used for a NLHE event. We crossed the street to the newly-opened Golden Nugget poker room and waited for the game to begin again. While I waited, I sat down in an open 1-5 game, much to the amusement of the other stud/8 players. ("Hey, it's action!" I told them.) No joy in Mudville; I spewed thirteen dollars in that game by playing too aggressively. |

they have plenty of these games running at foxwoods. but then again, stud is bigger on the east coast.
i think you could pull some money from it, but obviously have a huge variance. |

Re: Live $1-5, anyone still play ?
Only live stud game accessible to me is a sporically opened table of 1/5 no ante at my local indian casino. BI is $1. It's not too bad. Rake is high. But the only incentive for ante steals is the $1 BI, hardly worth it. so most of the time it is too tight. So I usually just hit up the 1/2 PLO for a serious profit nut peddling.

Re: Live $1-5, anyone still play ?
I love the $5-10 game at the Trop, I think it's one of the best kept poker secrets in AC, period. Lots of people who aren't really good at stud, but find 1-5 too slow or boring play in it. I've taken down some pretty big pots in that game. I haven't played in the 1-5 there since 2001 or so, so maybe it's worth a shot on a Fri./Sat. night.
Taj 5-10 seemed to me one of those games with a lot of regulars who all know each other and play against each other all the time. I thought it was tight, but I've only played in it once during the week. I used to play the Taj 1-5 all the time, especially on Fri./Sat. nights. Those games can be profitible especially when you get a few guys in their 30's & 40's drinking heavily and having a good time throwing around white chips. I've walked away + 30 to 50 BB many times in that game. From what I've heard, Borgata is getting 1-5 pretty consistently, along with their 15-30-45 game. 5-10 & 10-20 aren't going that often. |
