I'd rather take an unpleasant guy's money than take a friend's money.

I'd rather take an unpleasant guy's money than take a friend's money. [/ QUOTE ] This is one of the main reasons i like having people im not so friendly with at a home game. I know a few people who aren't the best fun to play with, but make it good for myself and my actual friends to play |

Re: inviting dead money
Yeah, for sure, and I'm definitely friendlier with some people at my games. Not that we collude, as I'll happily take my friends' money as well, but it's nice having people I only know casually feed the games. Still, these are friendly people. I've kicked a few annoying people out of my games, and one of them was a total donkey.

Re: inviting dead money

[ QUOTE ] Even if you someone is *frequently* annoying, once you start down the road of banning such people, where do you draw the line? [/ QUOTE ] You draw the line where you're comfortable and assess on a case by case basis. Nothing in this world is black & white. It's not really a matter of banning, it's a matter of not inviting the person back. [/ QUOTE ] There's a guy in our regular game who just irritates the bejesus out of me. He is extremely loud, talks non-stop about how brilliantly he is playing (he can't just fold, he has to tell you how smart he is to fold), and lectures other players with incorrect info. In short, he's a blowhard. I was talking to one of our other players yesterday and he happened to mention having run into the other guy somewhere and what a nice guy he is. Clearly, what bothers one person doesn't necessarily bother others, which is why I wouldn't start banning people (or quit inviting them -- I don't see the distinction). |

Re: inviting dead money
For sure for sure people have different impressions. If you're at someone else's game and another player is annoying you to the point of preventing you from returning, you should mention it to the host. Maybe there have been other complaints, maybe you're the only one. But when I'm inviting people to my home, I don't care if others are in love with someone, I don't want a-holes in my personal space. Keeping them out is lifetime +EV.

Re: inviting dead money
depends on why you play. selfish as it is, the primary goal of the game i host is for me to build a bankroll. with this in mind i invite anyone who will donate.
a few of them talk at a loud volume incessantly or smell, etc but i feel that ive learned some patience and tolerance this way. im slowly learning how to handle awkward situtations at the table which usually arise when you have a-holes playing. more than once chips have been thrown across the room at others players heads. i did, however have to kick one of them out last week because he accused me of cheating. i refuse to play in a hostile environment. |

[/ QUOTE ] You mean, when it's hostile to YOU? Seems a bit hypocritical, but you don't prioritize that anyway... |
