Would you insta fold here?
I'm playing in a 1/2 No Limit game. The buy in was typical $100. Full ring game. I've haven't made much progress in the first hour. Only up $5.
A guy with about $90 opens the betting for 8 bucks. His friend with about $80 calls. Both of them are total calling stations all the way to the river practically on every hand. Overall terrible poker players, who had the attitude that they could just play so much smoother than evreytbody else. Anyways I reraise to $30 total with pocket kings. I know this may have been a little too much with them to give away the strenght of my hand but I felt I could get one of the 2 of them to call it, miss, and donate. Well they both call the $30 making it a $90 pot pre flop. I think one of them make have AK, AQ, or even AJ. Maybe even KQ. Actually this is what I put the original raiser on, because the other guy was way worse and one time went all in with K5 off on a board with an obvious set and lost. Anyways flop came A-3-Q with AQ of diamonds. Original raiser doesn't even hesitate by going all in with his last $60. His friend folds making the total pot $150. So now I've got only $75 left and I'm risking 60 of the last $75 of my money on this pot. Granted I'm getting better than 2/1 on this call, but it just felt like the guy wanted me to make a huge mistake. I folded and the guy never showed but later claimed he just had a pair of Queens and that he didn't think I could beat it. I said yeah right like a $30 preflop raise didn't make you think I could beat queens. Either way he won and I couldn't bring myself to make the call. Am I at fault for not calling here based on the odds? Does it seem to anybody else here like the guy was just asking for a call because he maybe paired his ace and knew I couldn't beat it and wanted me to make a huge mistake, or does it look like he just thought he could bully me with the threat of it? Does anybody agree with my fold? Also what could I have done to control the pot better here? Should I have raised to maybe only $20 before the flop or what so that I could get him to only bet the flop, instead of putting me to a decision for most of my chips? Thanks for any advice. |

This is a poker forum not a Dostoevsky novel. [/ QUOTE ] Don't mind that guy, he's just a tool (as if you couldn't tell on your own by his response and avatar, heh). Anyways, I'd also fold. You're repping a hand preflop that this flop would have nailed, and he pushed anyways. The fact that you indicate he's usually a passive station, and all of a sudden on this hand he's desperate to get it in makes this a fold. |

I have no problem with Michael Caine, I'm just not a huge fan of esoteric references no one cares about (like, say, Dostoevsky)
Edit: Note that I'm bored at work, and just stirring up trouble for sport. |
